The Tow and Fert is a range of liquid foliar spray machines that mix, apply, and maximize the effectiveness of purchased fertilisers. Grassland farmers predominantly use it to mix normal granular urea with water and convert it into liquid urea, which can then be sprayed onto the grass at a cover of 500 – 700 Kg DM/Ha (2000 – 2200 Kg DM/Ha).
The liquid nitrogen is taken in through the leaf, and it is converted into plant protein when inside the plant. We have fine-tuned this system to enable farmers to maintain growth rates and reduce nitrogen usage by up to 40%.

How Does Foliar Application Of Fertilizer Work?
Plants and grass have cells in their leaves that have space around them called stomata.
These stomata allow efficient absorption of nutrients into the plant from certain liquid fertilisers sprayed onto the leaf. Spraying the correct mix of nutrients directly onto the leaf allows farmers to significantly reduce their nitrogen fertiliser use compared to spreading granular fertilisers. The uptake of small, uncharged molecules, like urea, through the leaf is fast.
Urea is commonly used for foliar fertilization because of its uncharged, highly soluble nature, and it is rapidly and efficiently absorbed by leaves.
Foliar application of nitrogen and other nutrients results in significant gains for farmers and their herds. The benefits and cost savings are significant from grass that grows better for longer to growing higher quality, more nutrient-dense grass.
Tow and Fert Applications
The Tow and Fert can also be used to apply:
- Finely ground limestone – to increase and maintain soil pH (soil drench)
- Gypsum – to increase soil calcium and sulphur levels (soil drench)
- Trace Minerals – Improve soil and animal health (soil drench and foliar)
- Molasses – feed soil biology to improve soil health and NUE (soil drench)
- Humates/Seaweed – soil, plant and root conditioners (soil and foliar)
Biological products – can handle a diverse range of biological products including FuturAg’s soil enhancers and inoculants (soil and foliar).
Product Options:
MULTI 1200:
The Multi 1200 is the simplest of the Tow and Fert range that is attached by three point linkage. The single boom machine has a 10 metre spread width while the dual boom option has up to a 20 metre spread width.
This model has a 1200 litre capacity which can easily dissolve ½ tonne of urea in cold water, or hold 1.5 tonne of fine particle lime in suspension.
It is fitted with a scales kit which separates the tank from the chassis on load sensitive bars and continually weighs what is in the tank. When calculating mixes using the supplied calculator software, the outputs are in kilograms which make filling the base liquid and fertiliser products accurate.
The Multi 1200 Dual Boom model features a wired connection so the spray operation and boom control can now be done from the comfort of your tractor. The agitation system features a patented housed impeller which ensures products such as fine lime can never settle out of suspension. The Multi 1200 can self-fill the machine by sucking in liquid from large water troughs or tanks.
Using just 1 pair of auxiliary tractor hydraulics, the Multi 1200 is simple and hassle-free. Fitted with a 100% Stainless Steel trash pump and a silicon carbide mechanical seal – specifically designed for this application, this machine is built to last. Depending on application rate, the Multi 1200 has the capacity to cover approx. up to 8 hectares of foliar urea in one load.
MULTI 2800:
The Multi 2800 is the newest of our towed models and is designed to be towed by a tractor of minimum 110 hp.
It uses the PTO at 1000 rpm for mixing & agitation and hydraulics to run the specifically designed 3” trash pump for spraying. With the patented agitation technology and the 2800 litre capacity this machine can easily dissolve 1 tonne of urea in cold water, or hold 3 tonne of fine particle lime in suspension.
It is fitted with a scales kit which separates the tank from the chassis on load sensitive bars and continually weighs what is in the tank. When calculating mixes using the supplied calculator software, the outputs are in kilograms which make filling the base liquid and fertiliser products accurate.
The Multi 2800 features a wired connection so the spray operation and boom control can now be done from the comfort of your tractor. The agitation system features a patented housed impeller which ensures products such as fine lime can never settle out of suspension. It can also self-fill by sucking in liquid from large water troughs or tanks.

MULTI 4000:
The largest in our range of Tow and Ferts, the Multi 4000 is perfect for those larger farms requiring a versatile machine for a variety of applications.
It uses the PTO at 1000 rpm for mixing & agitation and hydraulics to run the specifically designed 3” trash pump for spraying. With the patented agitation technology and the 4000 litre capacity this machine can easily dissolve 1.5 tonne of urea in cold water, or hold 5 tonne of fine particle lime in suspension.
It is fitted with a scales kit which separates the tank from the chassis on load sensitive bars and continually weighs what is in the tank. When calculating mixes using the supplied calculator software, the outputs are in kilograms which make filling the base liquid and fertiliser products accurate. Combined with the optional crane, you can load 5 tonne of fertiliser product into Multi 4000 in just 15 minutes.
The Multi 4000 features a wired connection so the spray operation and boom control can now be done from the comfort of your tractor. The agitation system features a patented housed impeller which ensures products such as fine lime can never settle out of suspension. It can also self-fill by sucking in liquid from large water troughs or tanks.

With up to a 24 metre spread, the Multi 4000 can cover 1 hectare in just 3 minutes at 12 km/hr (8 mph). With a capacity of up to 25 hectares of a foliar urea application per load, this Tow and Fert makes light work of a large job.
